Supporting children with eating disorders

Outline:
Schools are likely to have a great many pupils who diet, purge or use diet pills, who misuse exercise, and who suffer from body dissatisfaction. Schools are also under pressure to take action on obesity. (www.anorexiafamily.com). In a questionnaire with young people in two Norfolk secondary schools, 9-18% of young people identified as having an eating disorder.

Description:
In this training event we will explore eating disorders in young people, and what schools can do to help.

Outcome:
Attending this workshop will enable you to:
Know how children are affected by eating disorders and be able recognise signs and symptoms Identify strategies which will support children who have eating disorders Find out about services supporting children with eating disorders, such as the child and adolescent eating disorder service (CAMHS)
